The Gallery: One Word. Pancakes.

We ate pancakes last night in honour of Shrove Tuesday, even though it's not a tradition here. Our pancakes are different from American pancakes, which tend to be thicker and more doughy - I would call them crepes, although my pancake chef husband tells me his grandmother (American) called them 'German pancakes'. Anyway, they were delicious - first the savoury ones stuffed with cheese, bacon and mushroom, and then a couple of sneaky little pudding ones with lemon and maple syrup (well, there have to be some concessions to our American location).

For the first time ever, Littleboy 1 actually partook of the meal, and pronounced them 'delicious'. His brother still wasn't sure, but then, he doesn't actually seem to like anything but plain pasta at the moment. So now it's Lent, of course, and I have just had a virtuous cup-a-soup for lunch. Only one problem; there's still some pancake mixture in the fridge.....

This post was for Tara's Gallery at Sticky Fingers. Theme: One Word.

I have come to appreciate Pancake Day and we made ours the British / German way!

Funny they were advertising a pancake mix on television here on Tuesday night....I thought that was very American - plus, the missed the boat as it was Tuesday night at that point!

We celebrated Shrove Tuesday for the first time this year. It was HUGE hit. I think that's definitely something we'll take with us when we do leave. It's a great tradition.

Did you flip them? Always the best bit of the entire adventure. Apart from the lemon/sugar/maple syrup bit, of course...

Tanya - pancake mix? Yes, shocking....

Cross the Pond - I was surprised the other night with a group of American friends - not only had they not heard of it, they did not actually know that Mardi Gras was the start of Lent and that was why you might be using up the fat and sugar. Strange!

Geekymummy - you want to get back to your roots! They are delicious.

Angels and urchins - our pan wasn't really suitable for flipping (much to the boys' disappointment) - we'll have to get a proper pancake pan next year.
